Police Report: November 1-7

The Mount Rainier Police Department's weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. Some reports may be outside the date parameters due to extended investigations or other circumstances. Some cases are not included at all due to ongoing investigations.

November 7th:

4200 block of Newton Street: Assault – 6:30pm. The victim told officers that she and her male roommate got into an argument over an electric bill. During the argument the man grabbed her by the shirt and pushed her onto the couch. The victim was advised to seek charges and a protective order through the District Court Commissioner.

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Theft from auto – 6:40pm. The owner of a 2001 Ford told officers that she came out to her vehicle this evening and discovered that someone had stolen the front license plate.

3700 block of 34th Street: Criminal citation – 10:30pm. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

November 6th:

One Municipal Place: Criminal citation – 9am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

3700 block of 34th Street: Criminal citation – 11am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

One Municipal Place: Criminal citation – 11:35m. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for urinating in public.

One Municipal Place: Criminal citation – 11:45am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for drinking in public.

3200 block of Chillum Road: Warrant service – 5:40pm. Officers stopped to check on a man found sleeping in the hallway of an apartment building. Further investigation revealed that he had an open arrest warrant through the Prince George's County Sheriff's Office for assault. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

4400 block of 28th Place: EPS – 6:45pm. Officers spoke with the father of a 25 year old man who said that his son suffers from mental disorders, had not taken his medication for quite some time and was being combative. When the officers tried to question the man he assaulted them and resisted arrest. After a brief struggle the man was subdued and arrested. Fire/rescue personnel responded and took the man to Washington Adventist Hospital and released him to the medical staff for treatment.

November 5th:

4200 block of 32nd Street: Attempt burglary – 10:05am. Officers responded for the report that two black males were seen trying to break into a vacant house. Witnesses told the officers that they saw the two men in the vacant house's yard and that one of them tried to open the back door by trying the door handle. One of the witnesses interrupted their attempt by asking "Can I help you?" Neither suspect replied and quickly fled on foot heading south on Rainier Avenue and in an unknown direction from there. Officers found that four of the home's window screens had been cut. The scene was processed for latent prints, several of which were recovered and submitted for possible identification.

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Vehicle impound – 12:15pm. Officers impounded a 2006 Honda Odyssey that had been involved in a traffic collision. The driver was issued several traffic citations as the vehicle's tags were expired and the registration was suspended for an emissions violation.

November 4th:

3800 block of 34th Street: Warrant service – 12:05am. Officers arrested a man for whom they obtained an arrest warrant for possession with intent to distribute a CDS back on October 29th.

3300 block of Chauncey Place: Domestic assault – 3am. The victim told officers that during an argument that the male half hit her in the right eye with a closed fist. The officers observed trauma to the victim's eye. The victim refused medical treatment and a lethality assessment was completed. The male half was arrested, charged with domestic assault and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

One Municipal Place: Criminal citation – 9:20am. Officers issued each of two men a criminal citation for drinking in public.

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Criminal citation – 11am. Officers were dispatched to the Beauty Depot for a shoplifting that just occurred. While responding the officers received a description of the suspect and information that she had just gone into the Price Rite store. Officers located the suspect outside the store and found that she still had the stolen merchandise on her person. The merchandise was returned to Beauty Depot and the suspect was issued a criminal citation for theft under $100.

November 3rd:

3200 block of Queens Chapel Road: Warrant service – 12:45am. Officers responded for the report of a disorderly individual. Officers detained the man and discovered that he had two open arrest warrants out of Montgomery County for failure to appear in court on charges of drinking in public and disorderly conduct (apparently some jurisdictions take these violations more seriously that others). He was arrested on the warrants and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3300 block of Chauncey Place: Vandalism to auto – 9:40am. The owner of a 2015 Toyota told officers that back on November 1str he got into an argument in the parking lot with a person who was urinating near his vehicle. The next day the owner came out to his vehicle and found long scratches down both sides of the vehicle's doors and he believes the person with whom he argued was responsible for the damage. The possible suspect was not identified.

4000 block of 29th Street: Theft from auto – 10:30am. The owner of a 2009 Subaru told officers that when she came out to her vehicle this morning she discovered that the spare change she had inside of the vehicle was missing.  She said that she may have left the vehicle unlocked overnight. Nothing else was missing from the vehicle and no evidence/witnesses were identified.

One Municipal Place: Criminal citation – 11:30am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for urinating in public.

2900 block of Allison Street: Missing person (runaway): Officers were notified that the 14 year old girl reported missing by her mother on the November 1st had returned home.

November 2nd:

One Municipal Place: Criminal citation – 9am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for urinating in public.

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road (Advanced Auto Parts): Theft – 1:20pm. Store employees called to report that a man came into the store, selected an item and tried to return it as if he had previously purchased it. When the refund was refused the man became disorderly and began yelling profanities at the employees. Just prior to the officers' arrival the man left the store with the item he didn't pay for. Officers searched the area, found the man still in possession of the stolen item and arrested him for theft. He was charged and released to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

November 1st:

2500 block of Queens Chapel Road: Traffic – 2:15am. Officers stopped a 2003 Nissan Maxima after observing it commit several traffic violations and strike a curb. The driver was issued several traffic citations. The vehicle sustained a damaged tire and rim from striking the curb and had to be impounded for safekeeping.

2900 block of Allison Street: Missing person (runaway) – 2pm. The mother of a 14 year old girl told officers that her daughter ran away from home on October 31st after being told she could not go out for Halloween. The mother told officers that this is not the first time her daughter had run away from home. The girl's information was entered into NCIC missing persons files.

The following information  comes courtesy  of the  New Jersey Cybersecurity & Communications Integration Cell Public cell phone charging stations supplied with power cables or USB ports located in stores, airports, libraries, and schools may seem like a convenient way to charge your mobile devices on-the-go, but can you be sure that your device and data will be safe if you connect? These kiosks can contain concealed computers that attempt to extract data such as contact information, photos, and videos from connected devices, unbeknownst to the users. Additionally, malicious or compromised charging stations can expose devices to the risk of a malware infection. Even if the charging station isn’t malicious, the manufacturer or owner of the kiosk may require users to input their email addresses or phone numbers in order to charge their devices, potentially exposing them to unwanted marketing campaigns, spam emails, and scam calls. Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
