Police Report: April 26 - May 2

The Mount Rainier Police Department’s weekly report is not intended to be a listing of every incident or call for service handled by the police department, but merely a general summary of incidents that may be of interest to the community. Some reports may be outside the date parameters due to extended investigations or other circumstances. Some cases are not included at all due to ongoing investigations.

 

May 2nd:

 

2900 block of Queens Chapel Road: Vehicle impound – 3:35am. Officers impounded a 2000 Acura Integra after a traffic stop revealed that the driver was driving on a learner’s permit without supervision.

 

3800 block of 34th Street: Criminal citation – 8am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for an alcohol violation.

 

May 1st:

 

4600 block of 25th Street: 2nd degree assault – Officers assisted a man who was assaulted by a cousin of his girlfriend. He was treated as a local hospital for a broken jaw. A lethality assessment was completed with a positive result, but the victim refused to speak with a counselor.

 

2700 block of Allison Street: Domestic assault – 6:20am. Officers arrested a man after he struck his wife in the face with a closed fist. A lethality assessment was completed with a positive result. The victim spoke with a counselor and is receiving assistance.

 

3300 block of Chillum Road: Theft (unfounded) - The victim who reported her wallet stolen from the Queenstown rental office reported that the wallet was found in the office and not stolen.

 

April 30th:

 

3300 block of Chillum Road: Theft – 7:05pm. The victim reported that someone stole her wallet while she was in the lobby of the Queenstown Apartments leasing office.

 

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Aggravated assault – 11:10pm. Officers arrested a woman for assaulting and choking her juvenile daughter. Child Protective Services is following up on the case.

 

April 29th:

 

2700 block of Allison Street: Warrant service – 9:30pm. Officers arrested a woman on an open warrant out of Montgomery County for failure to pay fine on a charge from the DC Metro Transit Police.

 

3200 block of Perry Street: Stolen vehicle – 10:20am. The owner of a 1994 Honda Accord reported that he came out and discovered his vehicle had been stolen.

 

April 28th:

 

Nothing significant to report.

 

April 27th:

 

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Criminal citation – 12:45am. Officers issued a man a criminal citation for an open alcohol violation.

 

April 26th:

 

3600 block of Queenstown Drive: Vandalism – 4:10am. The resident reported that her former boyfriend broke the living room window with a rock.

The following information  comes courtesy  of the  New Jersey Cybersecurity & Communications Integration Cell Public cell phone charging stations supplied with power cables or USB ports located in stores, airports, libraries, and schools may seem like a convenient way to charge your mobile devices on-the-go, but can you be sure that your device and data will be safe if you connect? These kiosks can contain concealed computers that attempt to extract data such as contact information, photos, and videos from connected devices, unbeknownst to the users. Additionally, malicious or compromised charging stations can expose devices to the risk of a malware infection. Even if the charging station isn’t malicious, the manufacturer or owner of the kiosk may require users to input their email addresses or phone numbers in order to charge their devices, potentially exposing them to unwanted marketing campaigns, spam emails, and scam calls. Police Report: May 8-11

Friday May 8th : 3400 block of 11 Newton Street : At about 2 pm officers responded for the report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly punched the woman in the mouth and choked her. She told the officers that she did not want any police assistance and refused to tell the officers what had occurred. She was referred to the District Court Commissioner if she decided to press charges at a later time. Saturday May 9th : Nothing significant to report. Sunday May 10th : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 11 am officers responded for the report of a stolen auto. The officers met with the victim/owner who told them that he left the keys to his 2002 Lincoln on the front seat when he went inside to pay for gas. When he came out of the store he saw his Lincoln being driven up Eastern Avenue towards Rhode Island Avenue by a black male (no further description). A check of the area for the stolen car proved negative and a lookout for it was gi
